Prune kueh lapis is a variation of traditional kueh lapis — a richly buttery, layered cake that’s beloved in Southeast Asia for its luxurious taste and painstaking preparation. In this version, dried black prunes are incorporated into the batter or layered among the cake’s tiers, giving it a deeper, aromatic sweetness and a distinctive look compared to the classic golden cake.
